Sugihara Shoten is an Echizen Washi wholesaler that has been in business for ten generations since 1871. Yoshinao Sugihara, an important man of the production area, who is nicknamed "Washi Sommelier", renovated his 100 year-old storehouse on the company's premises in 2018 and opened the Washi Gallery. In the spacious gallery that makes use of the characteristics of the storehouse, Sugihara Shoten's washi and other washi materials are arranged beautifully and you can enjoy learning about the depth of Echizen washi.A variety of items such as “Uruwashi” is a fusion of Japanese paper and lacquer, “Chigiri Washi” is a design that can be torn, “Habutaeshi” is compatible with inkjet printers, "Decor Washi" and "Sun Hold Collection" for interiors are available. It's only open on the 4th Saturday of every month and by appointment only, but it a place worth going out of your way to see.
