OSADA WASHI

Founded in 1909, Osada Washi is a washi papermaking workshop that specializes in making hand-made fusuma paper. Among Osada Washi, the Japanese paper called “momigami”, which is made by rubbing thick fusuma paper by hand to give it deep wrinkles, is particularly impressive. It is characterized by its expressive wrinkled texture and unique leather-like texture. In addition, at Osada Washi, they not only make Japanese paper used for fusuma, but also apply the technique of attaching patterns to fusuma called “Hiryu” to produce interior washi such as tapestries and lampshades. It is also possible to tour the factory. (Reservation required) While walking around the inside of the Japanese paper factory, which you cannot usually see, you will be given a detailed explanation of Japanese paper and Osada Washi. When you visit, be sure to take in the aroma of the Osada Washi.
