Nishiyama Park / Nishiyama Zoo

Located almost in the center of Sabae City, Nishiyama Park is rich in nature and has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 historical parks for its 150-year history and beautiful scenery. Although it is called a park, the grounds of about 56 hectares are overflowing with a sense of openness, making it an indispensable spot for walking in Sabae. Also not to be missed is Nishiyama Zoo, commonly known as the smallest zoo in Japan, located on the west side of Nishiyama Park.In fact, Sabae City boasts one of the highest breeding rates of red pandas in Japan, and at Nishiyama Zoo, you can see adorable red pandas and animals such as squirrel monkeys up close.Admission is free.In addition to the zoo, there is a lawn square, an athletic panda land that is very popular with children, and a recreation of the garden related to Lord Mabu of the Sabae clan.Cherry blossoms and colorful azaleas cover the mountains in spring, Japanese irises in early summer, maple leaves in autumn, and the cold winter with a mysterious snow cover.
