Also, Toshiro Mori, who designed the ash trays for this workshop.
The octagonal proportions allow for use in every corner, combined with the outward curved edges that make it easy to put your fingers on. In order to achieve both practicality as a tool and a softness that fits in with daily life, we went through many trials and errors to find the balance of the shape, such as finding the proportions and adjusting the bulges at the edges. Octagonal trays generally have diagonal or vertical edges, but the edges of this tray are gently curved outwards on both the inside and outside. This difficult-to-produce shape was meticulously finished by Toku Inoue, a highly skilled craftsman.
