About the Tour

Echizen Pottery, which was born in the Heian period, is one of the six ancient kilns in Japan that still continues to produce pottery. Soil that contains a lot of iron has a distinctive red-black color on its surface.This time we will take you to a workshop where Echizen pottery is made. You can also view artworks by Taro Okamoto and others at the Echizen Ceramics Village, and learn about the history of Echizen pottery at the Echizen Ancient Kiln Museum.

Echizen Old Kiln Museum
Echizen Ancient Kiln Museum is a museum that opened in 2017. In addition to the Echizen Pottery Museum, there is also the ``Old Mizuno Family Residence,'' an old folk house from Fukui that was relocated, and a full-fledged tea room.Echizen Pottery Village
A hands-on museum of Echizen pottery. There are many works of art in the facility.

Tour Contents
A short walk inside the pottery village leads to an old-fashioned wood-fired kiln.
Firewood ash falls on the fired pottery, creating a natural glaze that creates patterns.
During the workshop tour, the craftsmen will show you around the workshop. You will also experience making pottery using Echizen clay. You can experience it with confidence while being carefully taught by a craftsman.Please come and have a special experience where you can learn about manufacturing directly from the craftsmen.

・No contact or cancellation after the tour has started: 100% of the tour fee

Precautions
・Depending on the day, we may not be able to tour the workshop, in which case we may be able to explain the process at another workshop. Thank you for your understanding.
・As we run the workshop with a small number of people, we do not go through the entire process of making pottery every day. Thank you for your understanding.
・The workshop often does not have air conditioning. It's hot in the summer, so please bring water and a towel, and in the winter, it's cold, so please wear warm clothes.
・Smoking is completely prohibited within the workshop premises. Please refrain from smoking.
・Photography is allowed, but commercial use is prohibited.
・Children over 10 years old can participate (accompanied by a guardian).
・If you touch any machines without permission, you may be injured. Please act according to the staff's instructions.
・We cannot be held responsible for any accidents or injuries that occur in the workshop due to customer reasons.
・You may be walking around the workshop on the day of the event, so please wear comfortable shoes and clothes that are easy to move in.
・Please refrain from wearing high-heeled shoes, sandals, or platform shoes inside the workshop.
・When participating, please come in clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. -
