[RENEW/2023 will be held] Come to the city of manufacturing!

A manufacturing event that represents Fukui. We are holding “RENEW”, a hands-on manufacturing market event where people can “see, learn, and experience” which is held once a year.

In order to create a sustainable production area, this year, which is the 9th year, we once again host the event locally.

[Overview of RENEW/2023]

・ Date: October 6th (Friday) to 8th (Sunday), 2023

・ Venue: Fukui Prefecture; Sabae City, Echizen City, Echizen Town

・General Information: Urushi no Sato Kaikan (40-1-2 Nishibukuro-cho, Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture)

The Echizen Sabae area in Fukui Prefecture ( Sabae City, Echizen City, and Echizen Town) has a large concentration of manufacturing areas. Traditional crafts such as Echizen lacquerware, Echizen washi paper, Echizen cutlery, Echizen drawers, and Echizen pottery, as well as local industries such as glasses and textiles, are concentrated within a 10 km radius.

RENEW is one of the largest open factory events in Japan, where you can visit the production area's workshops and companies and experience the craftsmanship and passion for manufacturing that people normally do not get to see.
Once you get to know the background of manufacturing, you will surely become a fan of the production area.

In addition, Echizen Sabae's craftsmanship continues to create products that match the current times while using inherited techniques, and recently more than 30 factory shops have been opened. The number of young people moving to production areas has played a leading role in the increase in manufacturing. Please feel the exciting atmosphere of the manufacturing sites.

Overview of RENEW/2023

This year, in addition to the usual tours and workshops, we are planning to hold various content such as exhibitions and talk events that you can enjoy.

1. Factory tour

The Echizen Sabae area in Fukui Prefecture has produced a wide variety of products such as lacquerware and Japanese paper over the years. During the RENEW period, you can freely go in and out of over 80 workshops and shops. The charm of RENEW is that you can observe the actual work in the workshop and communicate directly with the craftsmen who have been involved in manufacturing. Feel the passion of the craftsmen.

2. Workshop

One of the real pleasures of RENEW is the workshops held by each company. This is a valuable opportunity to experience the crafting techniques while listening to the craftsmen's explanations. Enjoy hands-on craftsmanship, such as lacquer painting, paper making, and original glasses making.

3. RENEW TRAVEL STAND

RENEW TRAVEL STAND is a drink stand where you can enjoy drinks served in products from the production area and consult with staff about how to go around RENEW and the workshops you want to visit. The staff will talk to you about the workshops and craftsmen of the products that contain the drinks, and recommend workshops that suits you. Why don't you stop by to enjoy your trip even more?

4. Local food

Fukui is also proud of its delicious food culture.Restaurants rooted in each region are also a major element of RENEW.Enjoy Fukui's cuisine to your heart's content, from flavors loved by locals to unknown new products that make use of local specialties.

5. Town/People/Work

"Town/People/Work -Localism Expo Fukui-" is a shop-style exposition that introduces socially significant activities such as "manufacturing, food, education, welfare, community, IT, and disaster prevention." While listening to the thoughts and stories of those who have gathered from all over the country, why don't you think about the future of the region and the way of life?

"Come to the city of manufacturing"

RENEW/2022 attracted a total of 37,000 visitors.
More than half of the visitors were in their 20s and 30s, and it is becoming established as a place visited by young people.

RENEW is an industrial tourism event that started in 2015 with the aim of creating sustainable production areas. We will continue to take on the challenge of becoming a production area that young people who want to be involved in manufacturing admire the most. Please enjoy the normally unseen side of manufacturing.

RENEW/2023, we are looking for secretariat interns.

We are looking for a RENEW intern who will be involved in the preparation and operation of the manufacturing production area RENEW together with the RENEW management and participating companies.Would you like to join us in creating RENEW?

○ Recruitment target: 1-2 students and working people who can sympathize with RENEW

○ Activity period: 10 days or more from July to mid-October (determined after consultation)

○ Activity location: All areas of RENEW, mainly in the Kawada area of Sabae City
